  D Day 70th Anniversary 6th June 2014
On 6th June 1944 British, Canadian, French and American troops landed on five beaches, with airborne forces dropping on their flanks. More than 10,000 Allied troops became casualties but Hitler’s Atlantic Wall was breached.

The Club commemorated the historical event on Friday 6th June by laying a wreath at the War Memorial at 11am. There was a display of memorabilia at the club and those who came to pay their respects enjoyed refreshments afterwards including "Gold Beach" ale brewed specially for the occasion. Memorabilia on display included a first hand account from one of the young men in the forces at that time.

Hundreds of the last surviving D-Day veterans  gathered on both sides of the English Channel, 70 years on from the momentous World War Two mission. Around 156,000 troops, mainly from Britain, the US and Canada landed on Normandy's beaches in one of World War Two's key turning points. Local vetrans and the club President laid a wreath at the memorial outside the library at East Preston.

                       Party On The Green

The 6th year of Party On The Green attracted families from our village and neighboring areas and was a record attraction. Local traders, kids zone and numerous activities including Face Painting, Tombola, Grand Draw, the traditional village Tug O War, Birds Of Prey made a thoroughly enjoyable day attracting over 1500 people. It's hardly surprising the Real Ale Marquee was popular as was the Hog Roast, Teas, Wines, Candy Floss, Popcorn and Ice Creams. This year live music starting at 5pm from local bands AMALGAMATION followed by popular demand, VOLTZ who were back again!

In previous years  indie rock band The NUTS performed and included their single Angelina Jolie as well as covers and their own compositions. Two of the members also play in STEEL STRUM who have appeared at the RBL Club since.

BILLIE, guitar and vocals, who was also accompanied by Jean playing harmonica on their unique cover of Karma Chameleon, provided a refreshing variety of songs enjoyed by the many who stayed on in the sunshsine to see the live music on the green.

This year AMALGAMATION kicked of the live entertainment at 5pm playing many popular covers from the last few decades.

VOLTZ headlined the event  playing covers from the 70s and 80s as well as some vintage rock and roll. They played till gone 9pm to the delight of the many who stayed to the end of the event. VOLTZ are visiting the club again and seeing the New Year in.
